Introduction to Houston Chinese Amateur Painting Club

休士頓華人業餘西畫社於一九九四年成立，發起人是孫曾城先生，當時會員人數有八位。此後會員人數年有增加，一九九五年有十三位，一九九六年有十七位，一九九七年二十二位，一九九八年三十七位，一九九九年五十位，二千年以來會員人數約六十位，二零零四年有七十五位，二零零六年八十餘位。年齡層由三十多歲到八十多歲。大部份為女性，男性約佔百分之十五。大部份為退休人士，有少數會員還在上班。每次畫展約有百分之六十的會員提供作品參加，有些會員本身不作畫，他們是因為愛好藝術而參加西畫社的。

西畫社每年舉辦二次畫展（春季展及秋季展）、二次郊外活動（美術館或花園）、以及數次對外公開的演講。每月的最後一個星期四舉行月會，月會的內容包括演講、畫展討論、會員聯誼、作品觀賞、或其他有關畫社事宜。年會在十二月第一個星期四舉行，活動包括畫社重大議題討論、幹事改選、及年終交誼聚餐等。另外每週四上午十時至中午十二時在僑教中心習畫，由義務教師包括趙文正女士、鄭可達女士、魏耀德博士、戴梅熹女士及蘇韶珍女士指導，內容包括油彩、水彩、粉彩、膠彩（壓克力）、水墨、鉛筆、及炭筆等。

附錄：一個小故事

The Houston Chinese Amateur Painting Club (HCAPC) was established by Mr. T. C. Sun and seven other members in 1994. Our membership has grown rapidly from 8 members at the club's inception to 80 plus today. The club attracts a wide range of participants and welcomes members from all age and ethnic groups.

HCAPC meets every Thursday at the Houston Chinese Culture Center at 10303 Westoffice, Houston. Our volunteer teachers, Mrs. Janice Chen, Mrs. Katy Cheng, and Dr. Y. T. Wei, offer instruction and assistance on various painting techniques such as oil, acrylic, watercolor, pastel, charcoal, and pencil. In 2005, we expanded our teaching staff by adding two teachers, Mrs. Susan Tsai and Mrs. Grace Szeto. Every year, HCAPC also organizes two art shows, two field trips, and several lectures/demos by renowned artists.

Our annual general meeting is held on the first Thursday of December, during which we discuss and vote on various pertinent issues, elect new officers and hold a year-end party.

All meetings, unless specified, are held at the Houston Chinese Culture Center.

Art lovers are encouraged to join our organization and participate in our activities. The annual membership fee is $25. For more information, please email your inquiry to vincent@hcapc.com.

HCAPC Constitution

1.名稱：休士頓華人業餘西畫社(一九九四年九月八日創立)
2.宗旨：為促進人類之精神生活、提高對西畫藝術之研究及實踐而設。
3.社員資格：凡對西畫藝術有興趣之人士均有資格參加本社為會員，會員有三種(1)一般會員，(2)贊助會員(定義同一般會員，但是沒有選舉與被選舉權，參展畫展需另外繳費)：每人年費 $10或以上，(3)家庭會員：有血緣或姻緣同住者。
4.畫社組織：畫社由會員推選社長一位、副社長二位、財務一位及編輯(發行)三位，擔負籌劃及推進社務之責任，以上四職每年改選一次。
5.集會日期及時間：原則上每週一次，每月最後星期四上午十時至中午十二時舉行月會，月會由社員輪流召集及主持。
6.集會地點：以休士頓僑教中心105室為基本地點，集會地點亦可安排在各人住宅、公園及郊外舉行。
7.活動方式：繪畫：集會時間繪畫，展示及評論。參觀：社員集體參觀畫廊、藝術館、畫展等地點。講授：約請對西畫有造詣之人士主講以促進社員對繪畫的興趣及技術為目的。
8.費用：畫社得酌收年會費，會費在年會時由多數出席會員表決通過。
9.社章施行日期：一九九六年一月二十五日，社章可由多數出席會員同意後修改。

Houston Chinese Amateur Painting Club Constitution

1. Name of Organization
The name of the organization shall be Houston Chinese Amateur Painting Club (HCAPC). The HCAPC was established on September 8, 1994.

2. Mission Statement
To promote personal enlightenment through the appreciation, study, and practice of Western fine art.

3. Categories of Membership
There shall be three categories of membership:
a. Regular member – Full rights and privileges
b. Sponsor member – Same as "regular member" except that they may not be elected and they do not have electing rights. A fee will be charged for participating in the art exhibitions.
c. Family member – Spouses and relatives of members

4. Officers
There shall be an annual election among the paid regular and family members for the leadership of the HCAPC. By plurality vote, the paid regular and family members shall elect the following officers that comprise the leadership of the HCAPC:
a. President (1)
b. Vice-Presidents (2)
c. Treasurer (1)
d. Editors (3)

5. Meetings
The HCAPC shall hold regular meetings every Thursday.
The HCAPC shall hold monthly meetings on the last Thursday of each month.
The HCAPC may request that members serve as meeting organizers on a rotating basis.
Exception may apply as determined by HCAPC.

6. Facilities
Unless otherwise specified, HCAPC meetings shall be held at:
Chinese Cultural Center, Room 105, 10303 Westoffice, Houston, TX 77042

On occasion, the HCAPC may choose to hold meetings at member residences, parks, museums, or other such public or private locations.

7. Activities
The primary activities of the HCAPC meetings are:
a. Painting and its critique/appraisal
b. Visiting art museums, galleries, and exhibitions
c. Hosting/facilitating demonstrations and lectures by expert artists
d. Exhibiting members’ artworks to the public

8. Fees
HCAPC membership fees shall be determined at the annual meeting. (For 2007, the regular membership fee is $25, family membership fee $15, and sponsor membership fee $10 minimum.)

9. Constitutional History
The original version of this constitution was created on January 25, 1996.
This constitution was revised on the following dates: December 4, 1998, December 2, 1999, December 5, 2002, December 2, 2004, December 1, 2005, and December 7, 2006.
